CNN en Espanol to broadcast - Cuba en la Encrucijada
Posted by: Richard Chiriboga Posted: 04-12-2011CNN en Espanol will broadcast a special coverage named “Cuba en la Encrucijada” from April 14th to April 20th, which will begin with a special program led by Juan Carlos Lopez from Havana, Cuba. From there, Lopez will keep the audience informed on the latest happenings from the Sixth Congress of the Cuban Communist Party to be held between April 16th and April 19th, 2011, where the central theme in debate will be the draft guidelines for the economic and social policy of the country. Lopez will report live for several of the network’s programs, such as: Encuentro, NotiMujer, Directo USA, Panorama Mundial, Cafe CNN and Conclusiones.
On Thursday April 14th, from 9-10 PM (ET), the network will broadcast a special program named “Cuba en la Encrucijada”, where anchors Patricia Janiot, Fernando del Rincon, Claudia Palacios and Camilo Egana, along with Juan Carlos Lopez and guests from Havana, will provide a complete analysis of the Sixth Congress of the Cuban Communist Party and its potential effects on Cuba and other countries in the region. They will also elaborate on the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the socialist character of the Cuban revolution, following the defeat of a military operation by the United States in the Bay of Pigs, also known as the Bay of Pigs Invasion, and its effects on Latin America and the rest of the world.
Additionally, anchor Ismael Cala will devote the Friday, April 15th edition of Cala at 9 PM (ET) to a special program named "Playa Giron". Cala will interview Alfredo Duran, one of the young men trapped on the beaches of the Bay of Pigs, who revisited Cuba ten years ago for the 40th anniversary of the invasion. Duran will be joined by a special guest from Havana, Cuba who confronted Duran on the opposite side of the invasion fifty years ago. United by history, they will share an analysis of the invasion and its impact fifty years later.
