Dominican stars shine in Latin Grammies
Posted by: CorrienteLatina Posted: 11-03-2006The merengue queen Milly Quezada and jazz keyboard virtuoso Michel Camilo were the Dominican winners in the 7th version of the Latin Grammy prizes held last night in the Madison Square Garden, amidst great expectations.
The Dominican performer won in the category "Best Merengue Album," defeating her compatriots Johnny Ventura and Eddy Herrera, and the Puerto Rican groups Limit 21 and Grupo Mania.
For his part, Michel Camilo won the prize in the "Nest Classic Music Album," with "Rhapsody in Blue."
Singer Anaís was nominated for "Best Feminine Pop Album" and the percussionist Chichí Peralta with " More than enough," as "Best Contemporary Tropical Album."
This it is the merengue queen’s second Latin Grammy, the first one in 2003 with the record of Gilberto Santa Rosa.
The Dominicans also stood out brilliantly on stage, as the first in performing was the legendary Juan Luis Guerra, together with the Mexican group Manna.
Milly also individually performed a segment, together with this city’s mayor, Michael Bloomberg.
