CNN en Españols’ political team anchors: Juan Carlos Lopez, Patricia Janiot, Lucia Navarro and Correspondent Gustavo Valdés started today the special coverage of the Democratic National Convention (DNC).
Throughout the coverage, key Democrats will be speaking during the convention and there will be stories that follow youth and student voters. There will also be a special throughout CNN en Español’s programming called Voto Latino 2012 where anchors Juan Carlos López, and Patricia Janiot will be discussing the importance of the Hispanic vote in the 2012 presidential elections.
Today Café CNN anchor Lucia Navarro interviewed spokesperson for the Democratic Party, José Parra who gave her an overview of the DNC costs and efforts. Café CNN airs from 6-10 a.m.
Nuestro Mundo anchor Patricia Janiot will interview former governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson at 4:00 p.m. (ET).
In Directo USA anchor Juan Carlos Lopez will interview Fabian Nuñez, politician and Democratic strategist who has been a labor union adviser and served three two year terms as a member of the State Assembly, leaving office in late 2008. Lopez will also interview Congressman and member of the House of Representatives Xavier Becerra. 6 p.m. (ET)
Patricia Janiot will interview the Director of Hispanic Press for President Barack Obama’s campaign, Gabriela Domenzain, at 7 p.m. (ET) on Panorama Mundial.
CNN en Español will broadcast the special coverage of the Democratic National Convention starting Monday, September 3rd through Thursday, September 6th.
Interesting facts of the DNC:
This is the first year that the Democratic National Convention is held in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Time Warner Cable Arena.
The Democratic National Convention cost 55 million dollars.
This is the fifth time that the Democratic Party has a convention. The past conventions have been in the years 1912, 1916, 1956 and 2008. This year, 6,000 delegates, 10,000 volunteers, 35,000 participants, and 15,000 journalists are expected to attend the Convention.
Main objectives of the DNC:
To officially nominate the presidential and vice-presidential nominees.
To establish a political platform that includes the party’s principles and goals.
To determine the rules for the party’s activities.
