JF1
Posted by: CorrienteLatina Posted: 08-23-2010Boston, Massachusetts-born and Dominican-raised JF1 is an emerging Latin recording artist who is an R&B version of Daddy Yankee and in the vain of De La ghetto and Prince Royce. What sets him apart are his creative stage presence and ever present gold fangs representing his hunger to succeed and humble approach to the music industry; all vigorously supported by a growing Dominican fan-base.
JF1’s first single "Como Yo" from his forthcoming debut album "Insaciable" (Impresario Music Group, 2011) is a mix of Reggaeton and Bachata and is being released as a promotional single, which has easily earned an over 200,000 plays and 450,000 views on MySpace thus far.
"The energy of a musical piece is what directs my creative process. I listen to the beat and just write what I feel. Whatever the song is telling me it’s also going to tell everyone else, I think that’s why it resonates so easily - it’s not contrived, it’s just good energy," says JF1.
Music was not his first passion but a series of events changed the course of JF1’s life and led him to discover his musical passion. Growing up in the Dominican Republic, JF1 was serious about baseball and pursued every opportunity to train with the hopes of playing professionally, however an ankle injury derailed his baseball career. His aunt encouraged him to pour his dedication and work ethic into a more creative area: music.
The widow of a Dominican Merengue musician, she had both an ear for music and a knowledge of the industry. During a fateful trip to New York City she encouraged JF1 to attend a Univision Television and Music casting call for singers.
"I didn’t know a word of English or how to navigate the subway system but I got there and stood in the rain for hours only to be turned away for not having the proper ID," says JF1.
However, a chance encounter with an A&R from Impresario Music Group meant that the journey was just beginning. JF1 did not return to the Dominican Republic, instead he took up residence in the Bronx, began to learn English and to work seriously on a recording career. Shortly thereafter the aunt who inspired him tragically passed away from a brain aneurysm, which further fueled his dedication to both the creative and professional side of music.
"My culture and my family inspire me to create music, to perform and connect with people," says JF1.
JF1 intends to inject new blood, character and personality into Latin music and credits his Dominican background and his rough but charmed journey with his success thus far. His music tells a human story that many Latinos can relate to.
"Life is unexpected. We can’t control destiny, we can only embrace goodness, faith, and passion above any adversity," shares JF1.
