“Who here has had a bad day?”

Writter and directed by Mike Birbiglia. The film stars Mike Birbiglia, Keegan-Michael Key, Gillian Jacobs, Kate Micucci, Tami Sagher, and Chris Gethard. A great comedic ensemble that really work well together and shows throughout the film.

Their theater is about to shut down and they work menial jobs to support themselves, but that doesn’t stop 11 year improv group The Commune from killing every night at the theater.  Best friends Miles, Samantha, Jack, Allison, Bill and Lindsay have built a great relationship building comedy off of each other for years. Each trying to break into the world of Weekend Live a Live comedy show that parodies Saturday Night Live.  When they find out that a scout from Weekend Live is coming to their show a fine line begins to crack. In the dog-eat-dog world of comedy the tug-of-war begins and two members get the nod and only one gets it.

They must now work around their crumbling relationships,  their soon to be closing theater and much more. very reminiscent of a romantic drama. The underlined tone stems on how the human soul deals with Drama. Some crumble and become bitter, some dust themselves off and try again and others just remain exactly the same.

The main theme of the movie to me is about “Relationships” how relationships are something elastic that expands and contracts based on what life hands it. This movie shows friendships, love, jealousy, envy, and so much more craftily written around the underground nyc improv scene. This is a must-watch movie for all.
