"Wings Hawaii making beauty from reclaimed materials"

We live in a world where waste has become the norm. Let’s be honest, how many times have you dropped your iced coffee container in the trash can without giving it another thought? Put your old jeans in with your regular trash because they didn’t fit or had a hole in them? I think we all have.  But there are a select minority of individuals that don’t. These individuals should serve as inspiration for the rest of us on how we can help maintain the earth for future generations.

One of these people is Samantha and she owns Wings Hawaii. A shop that spreads across Hawaii as well as California and New York. They feature beach boho chic, elegant but wearable, and high-quality ocean inspired goods. All metals and fabric scraps are reclaimed or reused, all inks and dyes are non-toxic, most fabrics are hand-picked vintage finds from all over the world, and all goods are physically created in Hawaii by the Wings Hawaii team. Their clothing and accessories are absolutely fabulous.

We asked Samantha to tell us a little about one of her favorite pieces at Wings Hawaii

She sent us this chain and told us a little about it:

Created with 14k gold hand cut details, vintage diamond set in 14k, a Faden Quartz Crystal holding the Celestial Landscape composition and suspended in a sterling silver hand fabricated setting.  Appx 2 5/8″ across entire pendant, from 3/4″ to 1″ from smaller end of crystal to larger and an 18″ chain.

What I find most fascinating is the use of reused materials and turning them into wearable works of art. We could all do our part to help care for the earth – we only have 1.

About Samantha and Wings Hawaii

Born and raised in Venice Beach, CA. Samantha has been surrounded by the arts in her community her whole life. As an undergrad at UH Manoa Howard started Wings Hawai’i as an art project. It has since grown into a full fledged business. Studying Fine Art with an emphasis in Sculpture shaped and developed the track she has followed.

Wings Hawai’i now co-owned with partner Melody Torres, college friend, has a brick and mortar location prominently on the Hana Hwy. in the town of Paia, Maui, HI. The grass roots start has maintained an important foundation in the brand, still producing our goods one piece at a time, by hand in our haiku studio. Howard is the lead designer of Wings Hawai’i and has had her work featured in many national and international publications.
