Gravitas Ventures has secured all North American rights to “City of Dead Men,” starring Diego Boneta (“Scream Queens”), Jackson Rathbone (“Twilight”) and newcomer Maria Mesa. The film will arrive in select theaters and On Demand December 16. It is already available for presale on iTunes.
When Michael (Boneta), a young American tourist running away from his own demons, arrives in Medellin, Colombia, after a long journey throughout South America, he realizes he’s gone through all of his money and must resolve the situation soon. Then he meets Melody (Mesa), a pretty Colombian girl who knows the city well and hooks him up with a group of young misfits led by the mysterious Jacob (Rathbone). The intoxicating group lives in an abandoned psychiatric hospital for children on the outskirts of the city and when they offer Michael their friendship and shelter – he quickly accepts. But slowly, Michael begins to sense the horror that went on in the hospital and feels the energy permeating the premises. His new friends only feel immortal, testing their limits every single day, pulling Michael into their dangerous dynamic — and it may be too late for him to get out alive…
Producer Alejo Arango shared why the story of the “Dead Men” is so personal to him: “I grew up with death and violence all around me — Medellín was tough back then. This is where the dead men come from; growing up thinking that you are already dead, believe me, living life like that is intense.”
“City of Dead Men” is the first feature film from Director Kirk Sullivan and Writer Andrew Poston. Alejo Arango and Laura Gomez Vargas (“Pescador”) produced; Brad Furman, Aaron Ginsburg (“Mojave”), Matt Ruskin (“Booster”), Alex Garcia (“Casa de mi Padre”), James Huntsman (“The Truth About Lies”), Todd Slater (“The Windmill”), and Jonathan M. Black (“The Suffering”) are the Executive Producers.
