To say 2016 has been a strange, rough-around-edge year is an understatement. I’m not superstitious like that, so, for me, it was just year a wee bit bumpier than the last five or so. Were there lots of uneven footings and demises? Sure. But it didn’t seem THAT MUCH different than any other year. Social media played a big part in over-killing it, but it’s normal for contemporary times. The pussification of American has gone through the roof. That’s why others see it differently and I’m not getting into that.
One thing I do know for sure this year wasn’t really a strong one for films. Personally, I think I’ve experienced stronger years. This one saw its share of good ones, bad ones, and some where one doesn’t even know how to feel about them. Truthfully, most of what tugged at my heart and soul came from TV shows and/or streaming Netflix originals and documentaries. But that’s a whole other topic. The focus here is films. And for what it’s worth, like every year, I scrolled through my list and here you the have the ones that left a skid-mark.
That said, Happy New Year, CL Nation! 2017’s rundown seems stronger, so, let’s roll with it already!
