New Yorkers’ movie theater experience has just been upgraded on an immense level with the first ever 4DX movie theater which was recently launched by CJ 4DPLEX and Regal Cinemas at the Regal Union Square Stadium 4 Cinema. What is 4DX? Well, 4DX is the next-generation movie theater that provides viewers an immersive cinematic experience with a multi-sensory theater environment. 4DX was created by CJ 4DPLEX the world’s first 4D cinema company and the technology enhances the onscreen visuals of action-packed blockbusters with special effects that include motion-activated seats, wind, fog, rain, lightning, vibration, snow, and scents. 4DX goes beyond 3D and large screen formats by adding visual, aural, olfactory and tactile dimensions to the film-viewing experience. Each 4DX auditorium incorporates motion-based seating synchronized with over 20 different effects and optimized by a team of skilled editors, maximizing the feeling of immersion within the movie, beyond the limits of audio and video; so instead of just watching a movie, film goers get to experience and feel like they are in the movie itself.
Corriente Latina was able to preview the first film to premiere in 4DX in New York City Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice which stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Jesse Eisenberg and Gal Gadot and is directed by Zack Snyder, and the 4DX experience made this film unlike any other movie that we have watched before. The 4DX technology totally transcended the traditional cinema experience as our seats moved along with the on screen action, and wind, fog, water, and vibrations all synchronized perfectly throughout the film. This unique combination of special effects really got our senses tantalizing and kept us and other fellow viewers wanting more once the preview of Batman v. Superman was over as we didn’t want the excitement that we felt while watching the film to be over as well.
4DX movies are sure to be a hit amongst both adult and kid movie fanactics as this technology provides an exciting, yet safe experience that the whole family can enjoy as CJ 4DPLEX’s Chief Content Officer, Sang H. Cho, stated that all smoke, water, and air special effects provided by 4DX theaters are non-toxic. 4DX movie ticket prices will cost an additional $8 on top of the regular 3D movie ticket price and from the 15 minutes of 4DX special effects that we experienced during the Batman v. Superman preview, the upcharge is something that we feel many moviegoers will feel is worth it once they get a chance to experience a 4DX cinema themselves.
While the Regal Union Square Stadium 14 located at 850 Broadway is now official opened, New Yorkers will have another 4DX theater option available soon to watch upcoming films like The Jungle Book, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Warcraft, X-Men: Apocalypse and other films as well at the Regal E-Walk 13 + PRX; which is centrally located in the heart of Times Square at 247 West 42nd Street and opens up to the public on April 29, 2016. These two movie theatres in Manhattan will become the 3rd and 4th auditoriums in the United States to host 4DX screens, along with theaters located in Los Angeles and outside Chicago. There are now more than 30,000 4DX seats operating in 229 theatres in 37 countries worldwide and 4DX aims to continue its rapid global expansion in 2016 by looking to add 200 more auditoriums worldwide.
