An authentic display of his talent and versatility as a singer-songwriter and producer
After garnering a huge buzz with first studio album ‘WELCOME TO GAZI’, getting co-signed by artists such as A$AP Rocky, touring with PartyNextDoor, and obtaining major media placements, Peruvian born singer-songwriter and producer A.CHAL debuts highly anticipated mixtape ‘ON GAZ’ via his label GAZI World and distribution company Empire, dubbed “the music industry’s quiet giant.”
Following the outstanding reception A.CHAL received with ‘WELCOME TO GAZI,’ there were a few things the artist wanted to sort out internally which lead to a hiatus. This in turn became the inspiration behind a lot of his songs and attitude on this mixtape. On his first album, A.CHAL coined the word “GAZI” which for him means to be real and free, to stay true to who you are. And it was evident in his lyrics and lifestyle A.CHAL lived up to the title. ‘ON GAZ’ is a continuation of that…it’s an attitude, a mental space, a vibe; it’s A.CHAL’s vibe. He writes about themes personal to him such as karma, self-love, heart break, spirituality, drugs, after parties and dishonesty. It’s gritty, it’s authentic, it’s a battle between light and dark, between self-love and self-destruction. It defines who A.CHAL is both as person and an artist.
“It was clear to me that I had to get back to GAZ. That I had to get back to building my integrity if I wanted to fix the things that were destroying me and push forward with love, not ego. That means keeping your word and not letting anything stop you,” elaborates A.CHAL on the mixtape.
On his latest offering, A.CHAL dives deeper into his culture and native language. He has 3 tracks (“Cuanto”, “Love N Hennessy,” & “Perdóname”) that are entirely bilingual where he showcases his songwriting skills in Spanish. For A.CHAL, this mixtape was intended to be a bridge into Latin America and the Caribbean. His desire to take his music beyond our borders transcends the obvious reasons that A.CHAL is an immigrant himself and has been inspired by Peruvian music and world music. For A.CHAL, music was his only escape as an immigrant kid growing up in the United States feeling out of place enduring bullying and violence. He hopes that ‘ON GAZ’ could be that escape for others, especially in Latin America who is seeing some turbulent times.
‘ON GAZ’ includes 11 tracks of which A.CHAL co-produced 2 (“Matrix” & “To the Light”), as well as arranged and co-mixed all 11 tracks. A real testimony of his multifaceted talent and versatility. The mixtape features collaborations with A$AP Mob’s A$AP NAST, GAZI World’s own GAZI Ghost, as well as a remix of 2016’s hit single “Round Whippin” featuring French Montana. ‘ON GAZ’ not only exhibits A.CHAL’s talent as a producer, it serves as evidence of the respect he has gained from fellow production colleagues such as heavy hitting producers FKI 1st (Post Malone, 2Chainz, Diplo), DJ Spinz (Future, Ty Dolla Sign, Young Thug, Metro Boomin), Daniel Worthy (Drake, Juicy J), Count Justice (Chris Brown), P on the Boards (A$AP Mob), and Bizness Boi (PartyNextDoor), who all produced alongside A.CHAL for the mixtape.
