Migguel Anggelo Live at Joe’s Pub

"Migguel Anggelo Live at Joe’s Pub"

Migguel is a Venezuelan-born and Brooklyn-based dancer, singer, songwriter and performer. He studied voice at the Conservatory of Music in Cologne, Germany, having been offered a scholarship after being discovered busking on the street. He returned to Latin American theater before deciding to move to the United States.

He has since released two albums, the most recent being La Casa Azul (co-written and produced by music director, Mau Quiros, and mixed by Grammy Award-winner Felipe Tichauer). His music, lyrics and performances often reflect his unique experience in America, being an immigrant who has lived all over the world. He recently packed the house at the Detroit Institute of Arts for their Friday Night Live! concert series. This past summer, he went on a ten-city concert tour of Russia as a cultural attaché under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State. (He will be going back this summer on an extended tour.)

Migguel has become a regular at Joe’s Pub. His recent show, Another Son of Venezuela, a critically acclaimed show he put together with Obie Award winner David Drake, explored love, loss, family, and what it means to be an American. Before that, Migguel created shows such as I, Inmigrante and Between Dreams. These shows have been met with praise:

“Anggelo is a force to be reckoned with. His energy is so contagious that you can’t help but become engrossed by his intensity, piercing eyes and poetry, and then two seconds later, he has you in stitches with his animated facial expressions and quirky sense of humor.” – Latin Post

“Migguel Anggelo thrills audiences with his bold voice, winning smile, swiveling hips, and radiant charm.” – Broadway World

Migguel returns to Joe’s Pub on the 23rd and 24th of May with So Close: Love & Hate. This show is directed by winner, David Drake (The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me) with musical direction by Mau Quiros. The costumes were designed in collaboration with Migguel by Obie Award recipient for Sustained Excellence in Design, Clint Ramos (The Elephant Man, Violet).

Please watch him perform his song, “Inmigrantes”, which is a perfect anthem for human rights in a time where immigrants in our nation are living in fear and uncertainty.

Migguel Anggelo is breaking barriers on the American stage, creating unique works that are reflective of the multicultural, multi-lingual, changing demographics of our country and times. The Brooklyn based, Venezuelan born artist began his career at 13 as Pinocchio in a South American touring production of the Broadway musical. He trained for a dozen years in classical ballet, studied voice at the Conservatory of Music in Cologne, Germany, has written music throughout all of his journeys as an immigrant in several countries, and has released two albums, the most recent being La Casa Azul (co-written/produced by musical director, Mau Quiros and mixed by Grammy Award-winner Felipe Tichauer).
