Alondra Santos, Voces con Dedicación Recipient, Performed on the Season Premiere of La Banda Santos Wowed the Show’s Judges with her Rendition of Selena’s Como La Flor
If you tuned into the entertainment show, La Banda, on Sunday, you caught Alondra Santos, one of the five recipients of Honey Bunches of Oat’s Voces con Dedicación campaign, who sang Como La Flor, one of the late Selena’s most popular songs.
Already a veteran of such shows as America’s Got Talent, La Voz Kids, Sabado Gigante, Estrellitas del Sabadoand Tengo Talento Mucho Talento, Santos also performed for President Obama during a Cinco de Mayo celebration with Mana.
The thirteen-year old Santos, of Dominican-descent, was selected by the talented Mexican singer, Sofia Reyes, who herself was discovered by Prince Royce as a teenager on YouTube, for her talent, dedication, and passion for music.
Voces con Dedicación celebrates Hispanic young artists between the ages of 7-16 who are dedicated to music and gives them the motivation to fulfill their dreams. Along with Santos, four other young artists were selected across the country and each received $10,000 to continue their musical studies and the opportunity to perform in their hometowns in front of family, friends and fans.
Get to know Santos in the exclusive interview below. She shares her advice on making it in the music industry, how she spends her downtime, and her future goals.
What are your tips for kids who, like you, are interested in pursuing a career in singing?
My advice is to keep working hard. Sing the type of music that makes you happy. You might have some obstacles along the way, but with a lot of discipline, determination, and hard work, you’ll come through. Always remember that school comes first. I know that music and singing is fun, and it’s great if you want to make a career out of it, but you must always have a plan B. That’s something that my parents taught me that I think is very important. Always put yourself out there. You never know when someone like Sofia Reyes, or a brand like Honey Bunches of Oats that supports the Hispanic community, is looking for the next generation of young talent to represent a program like Voces con Dedicación.
What do you do when you aren’t performing, what are your interests and hobbies?
When I’m not performing, I’m on YouTube looking up some of my favorite hobbies, looking at makeup tutorials, or listening to music. I might be on Instagram, shopping, or watching a movie or a marathon of some of my favorite shows.
What is next for you, what projects would you like to pursue in the near future?
Right now, my projects involve singing, and I would love to pursue a career in acting in the near future. Hopefully it all goes well!
