Ana Tijoux tells Rolling Stone that “Somos Sur” is about “the importance of resistance, not only in Chile, but around the world  — a collaboration with our Palestinian sister Shadia Mansour.”

This summer, Ana Tijoux returns to New York for a major concert at the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) 15th anniversary celebration, with a free concert at Central Park SummerStage on Wednesday, July 9th along with hip-hop pioneers Beatnuts.

Ana Tijoux’ signature song “1977” was recently featured in ABC’s hit show “Dancing With the Stars,” after previously appearing on ‘Breaking Bad’ and EA Sport’s ‘FIFA’ video game.  She also recently appeared on the BBC with an exclusive acoustic performance.

Ana Tijoux’s new album ‘Vengo’ debuted #1 on the iTunes Latin charts and has earned strong praise and multiple features at Rolling Stone, New York Times, NPR, Newsweek, Spin, Vibe, Billboard, Slate, Latina, Mother Jones, OkayPlayer and Wax Poetics.

Ana Tijoux recently performed with Lauryn Hil, MC Lyte and Jean Grae at ‘Rock Like A Girl’ at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. She also recently performed live on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic before a sold-out show in Los Angeles, in addition to major international festival shows including VIVE Latino in Mexico City and Lollapalooza in Chile.

‘Vengo’ is the follow-up to Ana Tijoux’s Grammy and Latin Grammy nominated album ‘La Bala,‘ which was widely celebrated by critics as one of the best albums of the year.

The buzz around Ana Tijoux has been steadily building since her Grammy nominated debut ‘1977’ bubbled up from an underground sensation into mainstream recognition, withRadiohead’s Thom Yorke’s naming the song one of his favorite tracks of the year.

“Rapping with precise enunciation, unerring rhythm, and tremendous flow, with a melodic sense that connects her rapping to her singing, Ana Tijoux is nothing less than a Latin American Lauryn Hill. She got Anglo attention when her “1977” was used in an episode of Breaking Bad, and she even got a shout out from Thom Yorke.”

“Her voice sounds unflappable, assured and playful, not strident, and her backup tracks wander tunefully all over the Americas, drawing on Andean flute and charango as often as reggae or R&B. She makes her righteousness joyful, even seductive.”

“Tijoux is one of the most influential hip hop artists in Latin America. In her latest album, French-Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux finds inspiration in the birth of her child and the complexities of womanhood. She shares her thoughts on making music that’s universal”
