A.CHAL UNVEILS MESMERIZING VIDEO FOR
“TO THE LIGHT”
Directed by RJ Sanchez and filmed in the desert of central California
Peruvian singer-songwriter and producer A.CHAL premieres video to the first single “To The Light” off his forthcoming studio album.
Just last week the initial treatment was disregarded in exchange for an impromptu road trip to the desert where A.CHAL and director RJ Sanchez risked filming the video on the fly. As a result “To The Light” was filmed in various locations in and around the city of Trona in central California, near Death Valley National Park. Using locations such as a Catholic church and the notable rock formations known as the Trona Pinnacles, the same location the movie Planet of the Apes was shot in, the video brilliantly captures A.CHAL’s quest of self-discovery on what seems like another planet or dimension. Also, contributing to the incredible aesthetic of the video is renowned stylist Fatima B, notable for styling The Weeknd for his Billboard cover story in addition to working with other famed artists such as D.R.A.M., Ed Sheeran and Wiz Khalifa.
“From the stories I’ve read the desert has always been a place where a person would find themselves at their barest human state, on path to what would become a transformational experience. Moses, Jesus, Mohammad, and so on, have all wandered the desert for answers. In this visual we chose the desert, as it symbolically represents where I’m at. Though I have support from others and not alone in my journey as an artist. I still constantly face the challenge of not getting in my own way. As I try to remain focused on the positive and not allow the negative to dim my light. The desert effortlessly portrays that to me, where there is no distraction but you and your own thoughts. I’m also a fan of older rock videos from artist like Guns & Roses and Red Hot Chili Peppers. And wanted to create a visual that I felt can carry the tradition & legacy of those,” explains A.CHAL.
Director RJ Sanchez, who has worked with Travis Scott, Lil Yachty and NAV, to name a few, elaborates on this collaboration, “Working with artists like A.CHAL is what gets you excited about making music videos as a director. A lot of the time, there’s not a ton of collaboration or communication with recording artists. Sometimes you get the feeling they haven’t even read the treatment! A.CHAL, his team and I had multiple meetings, just bouncing ideas around, watching videos, listening to music. I can’t even pinpoint the moment we figured out what we were filming but I think the time we spent before talking about what we liked and what we didn’t informed what we ultimately made. Overall, it was awesome seeing an artist really throw themselves into the process and trust me as a director. Also, I’ve never had an artist run miles in the desert before takes so he could actually break a sweat… respect!”
