RADiUS-TWC announced that Latinos will also have the opportunity to see a Spanish version of FED UP â€“ the much buzzed about new film featuring narration by Mexican film and television actor/director Kuno Becker – when it hits theaters nationwide later this month. FED UP, which chronicles several families, among them a Latino family, unearths the dirty little secret your favorite brands donâ€™t want you to know – far more of us get sick from what we eat than anyone ever realized due in large part to the fact that 80% of the 600,000 food products sold in this country have added sugar.
FED UP featuring narration in English by Katie Couric opens nationwide May 9. The Spanish language version of FED UP hits theaters May 16.
According to a study released by the Office of Minority Health in 2010, Latinos in the U.S. are 20% more likely to be obese than non-Hispanic whites and that doesnâ€™t sit well with Becker.
â€œItâ€™s troubling to learn that obesity is among the leading killers in Mexico where I come from and that here, in the U.S., Hispanic obesity rates outpace those of non Latinos,â€ said Becker. â€œIâ€™m tremendously proud to partner with RADiUS-TWC on FED UP and do my part so that the Hispanic community and our nation at large can start to make educated decisions about the food they are eating.â€
Becker directed his first feature film PANIC 5 BRAVO this year, which premiered at the Guadalajara International Film Festival. He is best known among U.S. Hispanic audiences for his portrayal of Ruben Berrizabal in Televisaâ€™s ratings juggernaut telenovela SoÃ±adoras and Santiago MuÃ±ez in Disneyâ€™s soccer trilogy â€œGoal!â€
FED UP was directed by award winning Stephanie Soechtig (TAPPED) and produced by Katie Couric (who also narrates the English version) and Laurie David (Oscar winning producer of AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH).
