Jencarlos Canela Is Announced As The First-ever Latino Artist To Activate The New Year’s Eve Ball Drop From Times Square That Will Be Televised Worldwide.
This ceremony will be seen by millions in Times Square and is to be telecast live around the world.
It’s the first time that a Latino artist has been selected for this honor, and is sure to give Jencarlos Canela exposure to vast new audiences.
In addition to his recognition from IRC, the non-governmental organization that helps people displaced by war, conflict and natural disasters, Jencarlos Canela is also being acknowledged by The Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment.
These three organizations are calling attention to his humanitarian work and his musical career that includes three albums that feature many of his original compositions. His most recent album is titled Jen. This year, he was also the winning musical team captain on the Univision reality/talent show Va Por Ti.
Upon receiving the news that he had been selected to trigger the ball drop, Jencarlos Canela said that he plans to attend this ceremony “not only for my family and I, but for all the Latinos who make this country a better place. One of the reasons that they’re giving us his honor, and that’s how I see it, is because it’s an achievement that we’ve accomplished together – my team and my fans who always support us.”
He added that “this is one of the most important recognitions that we’ve received. It’s an honor to be the first Hispanic artist to activate the glass ball of the New Year’s countdown from Times Square with the world watching.”
