SESAC Latina affiliate Nicky Jam finds himself in the midst of a remarkable period of success and inspiration as a composer and performer. The pioneer of Latin urban music was named the winner in two categories at the recent Premios Tu Mundo (Your World Awards).
His hit “El Perdón” (Forgiveness), featuring Enrique Iglesias, received the accolade for Party-Starting Song. This track has spent over 20 straight weeks at #1 on various Billboard Latin singles charts.
Additionally, Nicky Jam won the EspÃritu Guerrero Award (Warrior Spirit Award) for the commitment and work ethic he has shown in creating extraordinary music while keeping up a packed schedule of recording and touring.
Televised internationally, the Premios Tu Mundo also featured performances from two SESAC Latinaaffiliates: Jencarlos Canela and the aforementioned Nicky Jam.
Giving an explosive, captivating rendition of “El Perdón,” Nicky Jam enjoyed a standing ovation, with the hosts pointing out that the song has spent 24 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.
Singer and songwriter Jencarlos Canela was also feted with a standing ovation, as he performed the television debut of his single “Bajito” (Low) with his duet partner Ky-Mani Marley, son of the legendary Bob Marley.
Premios Tu Mundo are awarded by the Telemundo network at a gala ceremony that takes place annually in Miami.
In June 2015, Nicky Jam also received a SESAC Latina Award for the historic #1 success of “El Perdón,” which has crossed over to pop charts around the world.
