Nueva Salsa Swing – Shingaling

"Nueva Salsa Swing – Shingaling"

Shingaling CoverOn his rise towards solidifying his place in the Latin Charts, Yonkers own “Party Starter” B.a-Star is set to release a new single “Shingaling” featuring his father, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico’s bongo player, Richie Bastar on April 8th 2014. The track is the first single of the family project titled, Generacion Bastar.
The single is sure to blaze up the New York Latin scene and showcase the Bastar’s family talented traits. “Shingaling” is the first recording collaboration of the family.
Produced by Damian Bastar, whom is the eldest son, recording “Shingaling” is homage to the BASTAR MUSICAL FAMILY TREE. The track was recorded by their grandfather, Kako Bastar in 1968 for his “Living it up “Album which featured a vocal performance by Azuquita. Kako Bastar was a band leader/director throughout the 60’s and 70’s Latin scene in New York City, whom recorded and performed with some of the biggest Latin Acts at that time like; Cortijo, Ismael Rivera, Tito Puente and the Alegre All- Stars to name a few. This makes “Shingaling” not just a promotional song but more of a story telling of a family’s musical journey.
“Shingaling” is a style of dance from the late 60’s. Lyrically, the track talks about how music genres change through time. Musically, you hear the changes throughout the song going from; Boogaloo to Bolero, Cha Cha to a more Urban Pop beat which features B.a-Star’s lyrical skills. The song also features a solo on conga by father Richie Bastar and also a solo on timbal by Deecoy. “Shingaling” is set to create a movement and revive a dance style from the 60’s which decades after its creation has developed into funk music and hip- hop break dance.
No stranger to the music scene, Richie Bastar, father, has been part of the El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico for the past 15 years. He is taking this opportunity to record with his sons and be able to tell The Bastar Musical Story.
The Bastar family is also commemorating the 20th anniversary of Kako Bastar’s passing this July 2014. What better way to remember a musical legacy! “Shingaling”
