"Santi Mostaffa Named By Billboard As An “Artist To Watch”"
Santi Mostaffa
Making a name for himself as one of South America’s leading progressive hip-hop artists with a style that has won over fans of artist like Ana Tijoux and Orishas, the buzz-heavy Uruguayan MC Santi Mostaffa made his U.S. debut last week at the 17th annual Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC). Santi Mostaffa performed at LAMC’s prestigious Acoustic Showcase at SOB’s in New York.
In just the past few months, Santi Mostaffa’s music has been all over television, with the breakout single “Es Hora” landing in popular television shows including AMC’s‘Fear The Walking Dead, FOX Networks’ ‘Lucifer,’ USA Network’s ‘Gracelandand NBC-Universo’s ‘El Vato.  Last year, ESPN made Santi Mostaffa its ‘Artist of the Month’ alongside electronic music heavyweights Steve Aioki and Zedd.  Santi Mostaffa’s progressive Latin hip-hop songs “Fuego” and “Es Hora” were featured all month in various ESPN baseball, soccer and other sports broadcasts and platforms.  With last year’s #7 debut of Santi Mostaffa’s debut album ‘Intratable
on the iTunes ‘Latin Urban’ album sales chart (ahead of artists like J Balvin, Calle 13 and Daddy Yankee), urban Latin music is getting a much-needed dose of funk and jazz-driven, socially conscious hip-hop.
iTunes & Starbucks Mexico spotlighted the album’s first single “Intratable” as a
Pick of the Week, with 50,000 Santi Mostaffa download cards to be distributed at Starbucks Mexico stores. Leading tastemaker radio station KEXP (Seattle) also added the album into regular rotation.  ‘Intratable’ was released in 2015 by Regalia Records, the label led by former Nacional Records vice president Josh Norek.
One of Uruguay’s leading MC’s, Santi Mostaffa has racked up numerous awards in his native country. In 2012, Santi’s album ‘Hay Pasto En La Grieta’ won the Best Hip-Hop Album award in the Premios Graffiti. His follow up record ‘Pensamiento & Movimiento’ won the 2014 Album of the Year in the Premios al Hip Hop Uruguayo de El Quinto Elemento.  ‘Intratable includes tracks from Santi Mostaffa’s prior three albums, and serves as an excellent introduction to one of South America’s leading hip-hop lights. With his diverse roots (Egyptian and Italian, born in Uruguay), Santi’s music reflects this background on songs such as the Arabian-inspired “Las Mil y Una Noches” (Thousand and One Nights).
With its thought-provoking lyrics and production rooted in hip-hop’s golden era, Santi Mostaffa’s U.S. debut ‘Intratableis sure to win over fans of such classic Latin hip-hop artists as Control Machete, Orishas and Ana Tijoux.  The album’s first single “Intratable” meshes boom-bap beats, street savvy verses and outsized hooks that are sure to turbocharge the dance floor.
Other album standouts include the Cuban-flavored, tropical hip-hop of “Pienso Despues Existo” and the chilled-out, A Tribe Called Quest-inspired “Luz Artificial.”  Santi Mostaffa is already starting to make waves outside of his native country. In 2014, theBBC selected Santi to represent Uruguay in their soccer-themed World Cup Freestyles, and several of his songs have been featured in the nationally-syndicated public radio show ‘The Latin Alternative.’
