While I have to admit that Kendrick is nice, I think that a huge pedestal has been created to put him on. The same way that many consider Charlie Clips the battle rap champ right now, but has many battles that can be argued, It’s the ultimate decision of the public to name who runs hiphop right now. This doesn’t mean that his performance wasn’t powerful, it just means that in the 80’s and 90’s a hiphop artist would have never come out if they didn’t have their own style, charisma, etc. But because hiphop is so cookie-cutter now, anyone way outside the norm seems to be awed. This is me personally talking as a hiphop lover.
