The stars were shining at the 2021 Latin American Music Awards where over 30 musical artists graced the stage with a powerful and unprecedented mix of established singers and young talent, featuring a true union of generations. The impressive show, which broadcast live on Telemundo, included worldwide premieres, television debuts, special collaborations and tributes for icons Alejandro FernandezJosé Luis Rodriguez “El Puma,” and Ozuna. The night’s top winners were Puerto Rico’s Bad Bunny with five awards; Colombia’s Karol G and Trinidadian rapper, actress and model Nicki Minaj, with three; and Christian NodalPrince Royce and Shakira, with two each. The multiple stages of the Latin AMAs revealed a true musical journey of original productions during the three-hour show, that featured reggaeton with WisinMyke Towers, and Maluma in their hit collaboration “Mi Niña,” a regional Mexican music world premiere by La Banda MS de Sergio Lizarraga and Carlos Rivera with “No Me Pidas Perdón”, and the much-awaited pop performance of Spain’s David Bisbal and American country star Carrie Underwood with “Tears of Gold.”

Stars Carlos Vives and Ricky Martin surprised fans with the premiere of their collaboration “Canción Bonita”; Juanes performed “El Amor Después del Amor” and PitbullIamChinoLenierOmar Courtz and El Alfa, hit the stage with “Ten Cuidado.” Young sensation Natanael Cano performed “Amor Tumbado,” while Karol G sang “El Makinon” with newcomer Mariah Angeliq.

Highlights of the evening included tributes to Mexican music great Alejandro Fernández, who was presented with the Icon Award; Puerto Rican star Ozuna, who took the stage to perform a medley of his hits including “Odisea,” “Se Preparó,” “Vaina Loca,” “Dile Que Tu Me Quieres,” “Si Tu Marido No Te Quiere,” and “Síguelo Bailando,” was recognized with the Extraordinary Evolution Award, which he received from his grandmother in an emotional moment; and legendary Venezuelan singer Jose Luis Rodriguez “El Puma” was recognized with the Legend Award. To honor “El Puma,” David Bisbal, Sofia Reyes, Carlos Rivera and Carlos Vives joined their voices to sing some of his most memorable songs, including “Yo Regresaré,” “Dueño De Nadie,” “Voy a Perder La Cabeza Por Tu Amor,” and “Agárrense De Las Manos.”

In a heartfelt posthumous tribute to “El Poeta del Pueblo” (The People’s Poet) Joss Favela and Ana Bárbara surprised audiences with a memorable performance of “Eso y Más,” “Me Gustas,” and “Secreto De Amor.” The Latin AMAs stagealso featured rising stars Alaina Castillo singing “Bésame mucho,” and Yendry singing “Barrio.” 

Other electrifying performances included Nicky Jam with “Fan de tus fotos,” Gerardo Ortiz with “Historia de ayer,” Prince Royce with “Carita de Inocente,” and Manuel Turizo, Wisin Yandel with “Mala costumbre.” Camilo and Los Dos Carnales joined on stage to perform “Tuyo y mío,” Eslabon Armado sang “Con tus besos” and Myke Tower and Juhn presented “Bandido.” Finally, Maluma performed “Tonika” with Ziggy Marley, and then he closed the show with his rendition of “Mas De La Una” with Piso 21.

Renowned international actress and Mexican host Jacqueline Bracamontes was the official host of the awards, while an all-star cast of film, television and music stars presented awards and performances, including Alex Fernández, Chayanne, Dascha Polanco, Gaby Espino, Ninel Conde, Sabrina Seara, Vadhir Derbez, and William Levy, among others.
