Clumsy criminals and sadistic homeowners and twist of fate, oh my!
Mickey (Bill Skarsgård) and Jules (Maika Monroe) are lovers on the run, headed southbound for a fresh start in the Sunshine State. When their car dies after a gas station robbery, they break into a nearby house looking for a new set of wheels. What they find instead is a dark secret and a sweet-as-pie pair of homeowners (Jeffrey Donovan and Kyra Sedgwick) who will do anything to keep it from getting out.
Cynical yet humorous, VILLAINS is one of the craziest films I’ve seen this year. The entire cast rides a wave of chaos, regrets and secrets in a thriller/comedy that hijacks your attention and brilliantly lures it into what must be the most deranged narrative I’ve ever seen. Going from one twist to the next, VILLAINS keeps its finger on the trigger of strange hijinks that, in turn, lead to darker outcomes. So much, it kinda makes you question your own sanity. However, that’s part of the fun with this film. As wrong and strange as it is to indulge in, it’s nothing more than a parody of how fucked up mankind can be upon its own with a little power.
